  1. Stay at the overcrowded party feeling weird and in the way, because everyone I would want to talk with is on Arisia staff and has no time

  2. Go to other, similarly overcrowded parties and feel even more anxious because there I probably wouldn't know anyone

  3. Use alcohol to deal with (1) or (2) above. And feel bad later for making that choice.

  4. Come back to the room and waste time online.

  5. Come back to the room and do something more productive.

I am currently in the process of moving from (4) to (5). And I have a sore throat *again*.

You should have given me a call, I was wondering around looking for you. We could have found a quieter place to catch up on life.

If you'd dropped by the Arisia party and asked Ben, he probably would have directed you towards our room. Sorry to have missed you!

And this is why I avoid such events.

I hate rooms full of people, I don't care how interested I am in what they are going on about I'm just too distracted by that many conversations happening at once to enjoy any of them and I just want to curl up.

Feel better soon.

6. Park yourself in a comfortable spot somewhere in the hotel traffic pattern, and chat with people you know who wander by, without the noise and bustle of a party?

It would be difficult to do that with this hotel. There are *no* chairs in the hallways, which are rather narrow and *incredibly* crowded. Most of the party rooms do open to one of three outdoor courtyards, but these were not especially well-lit. The most well-lit areas were near the sliding glass doors into the party rooms, but most of them got commandeered by smokers. So the places where I would have been most comfortable sitting were out in the middle of the courtyards in the dark!

What I probably should have done is wandered back to the Arisia around 1 a.m. when things were starting to quiet down. But at that point, I was immersed in something else.
