work: hubris
Jan. 28th, 2004 04:37 pmSo... yes, I am getting my data files set up OK. BUT I have found major mistakes in how I was doing it... the sort of thing that one doesn't catch easily. everything has been redone, hopefully with success. Sally smiled knowingly when I took back some of yesterday's glee at "having it all figured out."
It was all stupid stuff that experienced coders probably have learned to avoid. But... try leaving out an equals sign at the end of a routine, and that messing up some completely unrelated variable assignment at the beginning of the routine. Or, change the value of something crucial *after* outputting a record. Or, where one puts that RETAIN statement really does matter. Stuff like that.
I make roughly $30/hour (pre-benefits) for this work. So far, I don't know if I am worth it. But then again, it is Day 6 at the job, and my SAS programming skills are rusty, and I have already learned a metric buttload of new stuff, very little about statistics, but much about cleaning data.
