a dream house

Houses are a prominent feature in my dreams. There are 2 or 3 that appear regularly, to the point where I recognize that I am dreaming when I see them. Houses in my dreams are usually much more simple and modest on the outside than on the inside.
The house showed up in a dream where I was buying it with my parents. It is in Southern California, and is built into the side of a hill. From the outside, it looks like a large single level ranch house with a door in the center and leaded-glass windows on each side of the door. It is a nice shell pink sort of color with white trim (a very common color scheme in Southern California). When one walks in, the entryway is done in peaches and yellows. It is quite formal, with off-white throw rugs covering peach marble flooring, and a crystal chandelier. There are marble stairs leading up; they get wider as one ascends them. The foyer has mirrors and wall sconces, and there is a hallway to each side (this part of the house is quite symmetric by the way.) The entire entry area is immaculate.
Down each hallway are two or maybe three bedrooms. All face the street e.g. windows are on the same side of the house as the front door) Each has its own bathroom (many of my dreams have to do with finding a bathroom; this house has bathrooms all over the place but I still have to seek them out). The bedrooms closest to the foyer on each side are usually identified as guest rooms. The one at the end of the right-hand hall usually is my brother's, and is very messy (this is true in real life, too!). The bedroom at the end of the left-hand hall is actually a suite, with antique furnishings and Oriental rugs over light colored, plush carpeting. The front room is light and airy and has a writing desk and bookshelves. The second room is darker and less detailed but usually has a bed and a window with dark curtains. There is a door at the back leading to a staircase that goes down into the "secret" parts of the house (see later).
Going back to the entryway... there is a door right in the center facing the stairs down to the entrance. It leads into a large, rustic room with a very high ceiling and stairways leading to balconies and/or loft space. The character is very much like a rural gathering place, a place where weddings, dances, and feasts would happen. The floor and walls are rough-hewn wood, as is any furniture. There are tall, east-facing windows at the back, with a view much like the one I had from my bedroom in Irvine in real life -- a slight haze, a broad valley (at least 5 miles wide), and rugged mountains on the horizon. There are windowseats. Sometimes there is an open kitchen at one end of the room, and sometimes there is a large fireplace at the other end of the room. There is no bathroom, and no stairs leading down to the lower part of the house. Even though this room has high ceilings, one would not be able to see it from the street. If the dream has non-family members in it, usually they are in this room.
Now, about those secret parts. When one goes through the door from the suite-bedroom, there is an open staircase leading down about three stories. There is a long, tall window along one side to provide light. Along the way, there seem to be bathrooms at every landing; they are stacked one on top of the other, such that the center is sort of like an elevator shaft. On the other side of the "shaft" there is another stairway with good lighting but no windows. This stairway should lead up to the rustic room, but it usually doesn't. Sometimes there is an open kitchenette along the way, and more bathrooms (some of the bathrooms have a door to each staircase.) (The bathrooms BTW usually have a toilet and sink and either a shower or a small whirlpool tub. They are always clean and well-lit.)
But really, what the stairways go down to is the best part. It is a natatorium (large room with indoor swimming pool) with a very high ceiling. There are more east-facing windows with a view similar to that of the rustic room. The windows usually have sheer curtains. The pool runs the length of the house and is heated to a comfortable temperature for fairly leisurely swimming. There is a large hot tub (with room for at least 15 people) to one side. In some dreams, I swim in the pool, but not usually.
Above the pool is a large platform-like area with metal railings and a very large bed with black covers. The platform is open to the pool and about 10 feet above it; there are staircases on either side going down to the pool area. The lighting is subdued. There is an end table at each side of the bed, and potted palm trees too. (one thing about this lower level of the house is how very very clear and clean everything is.
I dream about a variety of things here. In the initial dream where I purchased the house with my family, only the entryway and the bedrooms were part of the house as far as anyone knew. The rustic room came later, and is where most interaction with others takes place; it's usually anxious but not dangerous interaction. As for the staircases and the natatorium, usually I am the only person who knows about them, and I am alone, or taking one or two very carefully selected people down to show them the pool and the bed. I've never had sex in this house (I rarely have sex in any of my dreams), and at least once or twice I've become annoyed at someone for assuming that I was showing them the bed because I wanted to have sex.
In the most recent dream I had about this house, I found the large hot tub on the bottom floor full of people. Most were people I know (I remember
sunspiral and his sons being there, and
lyonesse, and all were wearing bathing suits. I was very very upset at this "invasion" to the point where I think the dream bordered on being a nightmare.
deguspice never shows up in this house, although he does show up in other dream houses.
