Oct. 3rd, 2003 09:34 pmhm. so, maybe I could get into ManRay. Funny thing is, I don't really want to go there at all; every experience I have had with a bar or club has been just plain bad, and I don't expect that ManRay would be any different. Maybe it's that I wear glasses??? (This is a personal preference; I don't want contacts, and I can't see without some sort of corrective lenses...) I think that I will let lameness (mine) take over in this case, since according to
krikket, Man Ray is going away soon anyway...
This does tie back into various appearance-related issues... specifically a conversation on IRC a week or two ago that turned ugly, not by intent though. The general discussion was whether "fat" women are discriminated against when trying to get into clubs on Landsdowne Street. I maintained that they are (on admittedly anecdotal evidence); someone else (who has recently lost a lot of weight) maintained that it had more to do with the high level of "style" required by the Landsdowne Street clubs. She seemed to be implying that fat women are inherently less stylish than other women. She denied this, but... Of course it's possible that fat women have more trouble *finding* stylish clothing (a lot of club wear goes only to size 9 or 10) and that's what she meant. (So whatever is trendy is really only made for Skinny Minnies.) But I don't know.
