hm. so, maybe I could get into ManRay. Funny thing is, I don't really want to go there at all; every experience I have had with a bar or club has been just plain bad, and I don't expect that ManRay would be any different. Maybe it's that I wear glasses??? (This is a personal preference; I don't want contacts, and I can't see without some sort of corrective lenses...) I think that I will let lameness (mine) take over in this case, since according to [livejournal.com profile] krikket, Man Ray is going away soon anyway...

This does tie back into various appearance-related issues... specifically a conversation on IRC a week or two ago that turned ugly, not by intent though. The general discussion was whether "fat" women are discriminated against when trying to get into clubs on Landsdowne Street. I maintained that they are (on admittedly anecdotal evidence); someone else (who has recently lost a lot of weight) maintained that it had more to do with the high level of "style" required by the Landsdowne Street clubs. She seemed to be implying that fat women are inherently less stylish than other women. She denied this, but... Of course it's possible that fat women have more trouble *finding* stylish clothing (a lot of club wear goes only to size 9 or 10) and that's what she meant. (So whatever is trendy is really only made for Skinny Minnies.) But I don't know.

more to come

Fwiw, I've been meaning to stop in ManRay, fthoi, so...if you are looking for someone to go with, let me know. Perhaps we can even round up an escort or two :) -H...

At least on the fetish nights, and probably the goth nights, i thought there was a usual population of larger women... And that big sale i posted about at Hootenanny in NH? Lotsa stuff much bigger than you. I'm not saying there's no problem, at all... just that it shouldn't be an insurmountable problem, if you do want to go.

can't speak to landesdown, but there seemed to be a reasonably proportionate representation of fat women at man ray last wednesday. i danced with one for awhile, who seemed to be having a grand ol' time, though i think her corset might have been more comfortable if it fit her a little better (she was overflowing the top of it a bit :) otoh, she was *wearing* a corset (and a black leather one at that) so her goth cred was a bit above mine anyway....
