hm, I think I put you as "no crush" but I am not sure. Memory gets fuzzy after a few years so you might be an ex-crush?

Oh, we should definitely garden-geek! I just planted a bunch of perennials and I still have winter pansies and bulbs.... we'll see how rainy it is tomorrow; maybe I can get some done then.

Actually, I don't remember which I put you down as either.

I was too busy and tired from furniture moving to plant my new roses properly, so I heeled them in in my hybrid tea bed and will plant them on Monday. Which perennials are you planting?

I need to get my bulb order in soon. I want to put a bunch of species tulips in my rose beds.

It's been such a busy gardening summer, I can't believe the time is drawing near to put it to bed.

Perennials... let's see. blue spirea, some kind of sage, anise hyssop "Tutti-Frutti"*** ... catmint, a thornless thistle, and Boltonia (sp?) false aster. Most are in a bed that I am trying to get right for the third time... It is by the deck next to the barn, and gets quite hot in the summer.

I also got, by accident, a real bargain on a mature fall-bearing yellow raspberry plant ($6, when I am pretty sure it should have been $23!) which got its own hole above the raspberry bed. It has a few berries on it. And there are, ahem, several rat corpses underneath it to keep it fertilized...

I also swapped out the two red mini-roses in the back for a yellow and a pink one from the front. The back garden is all soft colors like lavendar, white, and pale blue, so bright lipstick red was not the right thing to have there! These are cheapies from the supermarket, nothing special but so far very tough. The ones in the front survived the winter under a 4 foot tall pile of plowed snow, and the ones in the back got eaten to the bases and still came back.

I may have overdone it buying bulbs, so if I have extras I will let you know.

***Anise hyssop is a very neat plant. It's about 3 feet tall and shrubby, and has very pretty flowers that attract bees. So far mine have been impossible to kill.
