quietann: (Naku)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wren13, Naku now has company again! He is a 14 week old, short-haired orange tiger kitten, quite shy but also cuddly. I turned down the Pine Banks male cat because he was just too domineering and huge for Naku.

The little guy is living in a huge dog cage in my office. He and Naku can sniff noses but not get to each other. There has been a certain amount of hissing and growling, but at this point the little guy is sacked out on top of his cat tower, and Naku is on the stairs and fairly relaxed. They will spend a week or so like this.

No photos yet, but he's awfully cute. He might get named Sam, or Whit.

He's resting on top of his litterbox, which allows him to see Naku and to stretch out... he is LONG!

He's a cutie. I hope that the two cats will get along well- we're still hvaing problems between our two cats after more than a year together...

I swear by Feliway - have you tried it?

Nope, I haven't even heard of it. What is Feliway?

Feliway is a pheromone that comes in either a spray or a 30 day plug in (like Glade scent plug ins). The pheromone is based on nursing cats - it decreases the anxiety level of the cats in its presence. I use it for introdutions alot. Petsmart and Petco both carry it.

I wish I'd known about this stuff a year ago when Patches first came home with Sue.

Given that they've been at it for a year, do you think that it would still be worth trying at this point?

The issues between Patches and Stella seem to be about food (Patches weighs 15 pounds and would like to bulk up to 20, she seems to feel that all of the food should be hers), territory (they each have their own areas that the other doesn't venture into any more), and attention from humans (fights often start when one of the two is sitting on Sue's lap.)

I would put food for Stella in a cardboard box with a hole that Patches can't fit through, that will help there. I'd try the Feliway, time doesn't seem to make much difference in its effectiveness.

omigod SO CUTE! *dies* I miss having a kitten in the house.

Is that Naku in your icon? If so, she's the spitting image of my little gray kitty!

OMG *ded from cute*

I think Whit is an awesome name for a cat (I personally have had thoughts of naming my next cat Mad Emperor Yuri).

He's so cute. But look at those paws, he's going to be a big cat. I'm sure Naku will warm up to him pretty quickly.

When I was a kid I had an orange tabby we called him Morris. Yeah, I know so original. I was 8.

I like Sam better of the two names you mention.

How's about the name Seville since he's about the color of a Seville Orange or the marmalade that is made from it....

He's very cute.

We have a belief around here that genetically, orange cats are TROUBLE! They have tons of personality and like to get into mischief. :D

I vote for Whit. The cat looks like a teenager I knew by that name: a not entirely serious young man with orange/red hair, skin to match, a good grin, and amusing company.

I agree, feliway is a Good Thing if you haven't tried it yet. Available as room diffuser or spray, helps reduce anxiety level of kitties to help with situations like meeting new cats, being in new spaces. Also reduces marking behavior like scratching, spraying because it basically tells cats they have already marked a space, so they don't need to again. Room diffuser probably makes the most sense for this situation. Looking forward to seeing you and your new kitty soon now that I'm in the neighborhood!
