murderous rodents
Jul. 19th, 2003 12:40 pmSo last summer, I purchased some lily bulbs on sale at BJs. They were 12 for 5 bucks or something like that. Only two of them grew after I planted them, which wasn't surprising given that I planted them in August. This year, 4 or 5 of them are up, and now blooming in beautiful bright shades of pink and yellow. BUT the flowers have been disappearing at an alarming rate.
Today, Ben looked out the window and saw a woodchuck chowing down on one of the pink lilies. Murderous rodent!!!! He's also eaten several cucumber plants, a pumpkin plant, and numerous sunflowers. And may have been partially responsible for the destruction, over the winter, of the irises, roses, and other plants that used to inhabit that bed. Next year, we put a fence around that bed!
The other murderous rodent incident is
I had some people over to collect their baby rats earlier today. Right after they left, I noticed Duv, who is one of the mild-mannered older boys, chewing on *something* bloody. Rats have been known to eat the bodies of their dead friends, so I quickly did a headcount in that cage. All 8 boys alive and accounted for. Phew. So I looked again... the bloody something was the remnants of a mouse who must have gotten into the cage. Ew!!!!!! Ben very chivalrously removed the remains, after I got Duv away.
