Good riding today. Minnie was in full thoroughbred mode -- hyper and *fast*. We rode in a field behind Jack's pen; J worked Trumpie around in a larger circle while I did whatever with Minnie, including a couple of *very* good canters. (J said gallops, and yes, Minnie was going a bit fast there!) The flies were something awful, though, and most of Minnie's tossiness and jitteriness was most likely due to that. She was less well-behaved being led and such, but the chain over the nose did help. The two of us just cannot go through that narrow gate at the same time, so I am letting her go first, playing out the lead line to its end, and then I follow. I think she does remember Friday, because she was very cautious about the gate.

J and I had lunch together, and went back to The Hill and cleaned tack, and made a few potential plans for riding etc. for the next couple of weeks.

I know that all I am writing about is riding, but seriously, the rest of my life is either really boring, or the sort of stuff I don't want to air in semi-public.

Why are you letting her go first? I thought SOP was humans first, horses follow.

it is, but in this case the gate is very narrow and steps down in to the paddock. Rather than have A. get run over again by the clumsy horse, no harm will come in letting the mare go first in this situation. If we were dealing with a young horse (as opposed to a 24 year-old who really does know better) then I would be leading it and not letting it bolt into the turnout.

oops, I tried to comment but LJ burped. What I was saying is that see what [livejournal.com profile] goddessfarmer, Minnie's owner says. (Minnie has been in her family since before Minnie was even born!)

And http://quietann.livejournal.com/454698.html if you haven't already seen, for what happened when I tried to do it right. I still have bruises and a sore leg!

Hey, riding is interesting. Besides, I really don't wish Interesting Lives on my friends. Boredom is great to live! (As I said to a coworker the other day.)
