baby rats!

Over the weekend, along with everything else, two of my rats had babies! First was Illusionist, who has 12 babies. I am especially happy because I thought the daddy rat was sterile; he'd been bred before but it never resulted in babies. That was Saturday afternoon; Ben's sister actually saw the first baby being born while she was using the bathroom. We'd moved the pregnant mamas into the downstairs bathroom because it was the best dog-less space we have. Then yesterday afternoon, Junior Cowgirl had 6 babies.

Both mamas are doing great. They are in a divided cage which will eventually become communal (2 mamas, 18 baby rats!)

I went to Malden Mills recentlyish, and ended up with some "rolls" of fabric that had a yard or three on them. Do you want those cardboard tubes from those? They look easy to cut up (it's about 4 or 5 foot long tubes). They're
large enough for "big babies" to play in, but I don't think they're big enough for a full size adult (but if it's a smaller sized adult, it might work).
