No babies :( It's not a surprise, but...

The only reason I bred Little Star is because her sister Esther, who is prettier and nicer, wasn't and isn't getting pregnant. The boy Little Star was bred to is no longer breedable... though I have six of his sister's kids, so that's not terrible.

I have tried breeding Esther to Slimboy, one of my proven males, but... so far she hasn't gotten pregnant. She's in with him for one last time tonight. Slimboy is, ah, aggressively interested in girls, but he's such a love otherwise. No testosterone poisoning here!

I figure I have 3 more days to breed before needing to take time off in anticipation of our April trip. BTW, in the seemingly unlikely event that I *do* have a litter or three of baby rats at that time, is anyone interested in borrowing a mama and babies while we're gone? The babies really do better if they are handled every day.

In other news, I sent my boss a drafty draft of the safety review. And then promptly discovered a big "oops" in one section. That's why I am up so late; I fixed it just so I don't have to think about it anymore. Luckily it was a very easy fix.

Bedtime now.

Would Kylie still want to have custody of the baby rats from April 9 to April 23? I do have someone else who's interested if this won't work for you, but you guys did such a good job with the last set, I want you to have first dibs.

My daughter would be delighted with baby rats. We have no plans for April. We do now have a kitten, though; I hope they're not escape artists.

Babies in general will stay with mama, though you need to count them *very* carefully before closing the cage, especially as they get older and more exploratory. We'll see how the breedings go.
