At 8 a.m. I looked out the window and said, "What big storm?" There were about 2 inches of fresh snow, and a little wind. I was slightly embarassed for having chosen to work at home on what looked to be a normal winter day.

At 10 a.m., I shoveled a little bit (to get to the newspaper, and make a path to/behind my car) and there were about 3 inches of snow, and a little wind. It was sleeting, and I was feeling a bit more like maybe this storm was for real.

Since then, there has been an ugly mix of snow and sleet, at least another inch or two. I don't understand why it's sleeting when it's all of 20 degrees outside. And more wind.

So maybe it is a big storm after all.

it's sleeting because it was supposed to rain, but the air's so cold that the rain freezes before hitting the ground. Some of the rain makes it without freezing, which produces ice. The droplets are too heavy to produce snow, I guess.

It's all back to snow now, and if I read the weather pages correctly, up here it will stay that way. Several inches have fallen since I posted.

I'm SO glad I took the bus to work this morning.

It will make getting home a hell of a lot easier.
