*another* Friday Five
Apr. 4th, 2003 12:58 pm1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?
Four single-family homes, 3 apartments, 5 dorm rooms
2. Which was your favorite and why?
The apartment I had in Waltham from 1996 to 1999 was the best. It was large (about 1000 sq.ft), it was funky (in the attic), it was cheap (rent started at $600/month, went to $675, and would have been $750 if I'd stayed longer), it was my own space (except for a few months when
gosling was living with me), and the landlady was very hands-off, which meant I didn't worry about her finding out about the rats (not much, anyway...). It wasn't perfect though; there was the occasional noisy/obnoxious neighbor, and the place was a firetrap (though the fire station was less than a block away).
I also liked the last dorm room I had at Reed College, which was in the corner of an attic of a big house on campus.
3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?
Mostly stressful, because of packing and having to coordinate a lot of help (paid and unpaid). I like *unpacking* though.
4. What's more important, location or price?
Location... though price was the primary consideration when I lived in Waltham. However, if I had infinite money to spend on a place, I'd definitely pick by location.
5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?
Two hot tubs (one indoors, one outdoors), lots of beds for gardening, little to no lawn (but meadow is fine), dedicated rat room that can be cleaned by hosing it down, and separate space for
deguspice and I. Quiet neighbors, and a large space between them and us. Near a commuter rail station.
