Ann, I've been away for a couple of days and am just now backreading LJ. I am so terribly sorry for all of these horrible losses. I can't even imagine what you're going through. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. I'm thinking of you and your sweet vermin and hoping that your darkest days are over. I absolutely welled up with tears when I read your first accounting post, and am in tears now. I am so, so sorry.

right now... I dunno. Just hope it ends soon. You met most if not all of these rats.

Your Sam was one of the weird deaths; he was fine, fat and happy, except for a little irritation from where I had the tumor under his arm removed when I had him neutered. It is possible that the cancer was coming back; my vet had told me when he took it off that it was something nasty and aggressive and that Sam wouldn't live long. That was almost a year ago... Last Saturday night when we got home, he was comatose. Responsive only to pain (which I found out when I picked him up; he started screaming.) He was dead the next morning.

I saw that Sam was among the dead. It doesn't sound like any illness I've ever seen. The comatose behavior in particular seems weird.. whatever it is I hope that it's done most of the damage it's going to do. I remember many of the rats you've named and I'm happy to have been able to come hang out with you and them this fall. Your rats are such a treat to be near, and your company's not so bad either ;)

He's actually the third rat I've had named Mouse. I tend to give the name to small males; he was a runt in his litter (of 18 babies, all made it!) His registered name is ANR Munchkin Mouse.

And he was a midget filled with personality! I had the pleasure of helping to grow him up as big and strong as his little self could be, and his sister lives with me. He was soooooo hard to let go, I do love a miniature anything.
