I drove up to [livejournal.com profile] goddessfarmer's place today and went riding with her. It was fun... me on Minnie the Crazy Mare and her on lovely Trump. Minnie's sweet, and she reallyreallyreally wants to do the right thing, but she's a little bit neurotic about it, and has, um, severe separation anxiety WRT Trump. I totally embarassed myself at the start, when I was up but G wasn't yet, and Minnie *insisted* on going back into the barn to be with Trump, and I didn't act quickly enough to stop her (more proof that my pony skills are rusty!)

But we went out on the trails, and Minnie stayed close to Trump and didn't mind being ridden by me. Mostly walking because of Trump not having any shoes, although Minnie sometimes had to trot to catch up to him, and after a while I figured out to just go with it. [livejournal.com profile] goddessfarmer was amused to discover that we both look at downed trees as potential jumps -- not that I'm anywhere near ready to start jumping again.

Minnie's an ancient mare, and I have a real soft spot for ancient mares.

Thoughts: another person telling me that I look good for someone who's been away from riding for so long. It feels good. I am very nervous still, though. I also realized that readjusting is not just about the 40 pounds I've gained in the 22 or 24 years since I quit riding, but also about having *breasts*. I grew hips at 12 or 13, when I was a fairly new rider, but was an AA or A-cup, if that, up top until after I quit riding.

We cleaned tack after, and watched a video of [livejournal.com profile] goddessfarmer competing in an event in 1997.

I'm planning to go back while waiting to get the lesson situation settled. And maybe after that, because it's fun.

Since you're hanging around horse barns and the like, could you do me a favor and ask around if anyone needs a barn mouser? We finally managed to catch Voodoo in the cabin and bring him home, but having him home is not long-term viable for us... it's either find him a job or put him down... (he's a fantastic mouser, and keeps to himself in the shadows otherwise. He's just NOT a people-kitty...)

If no one else can take him, I can give him a barn to live in. I just can't be sure that he would stay, as the other cat in this barn is a dominant female who has chased off both he mother and sibling (sibling in icon). She's not much of a people kitty either, and one more barn cat to feed is not a big deal.

good riding

Having riding company is SO MUCH FUN! And yes, it is easy to see that on some level you know how to ride - your body wants to do the right thing. The best thing for you right now is more time in the saddle, even if it's not lessons, just to get the muscles to the point where they can go where they want to and stay there. And I think you might be surprised at how fast you start looking at those logs and thinking you can... I'm sure Minnie will be happy to oblige.
