1. This morning, I forgot three items from upstairs and had to go back up. Two of the three were my magen David necklace and a half-slip for under my skirt to help me stay warm. Oh, wait. The third wasn't an item, it was a task: Clean my glasses.

2. Then I left my coffee cup on the kitchen counter and drank DunkinDonuts coffee instead -- bleah! (I don't even use expensive coffee; this was preground Green Mountain Coffee Co or New England Coffee Co organic decaf with a little bit of Seattle's Best regular from a sample pak mixed in.)

3. I got to work, went and got breakfast, and didn't do a bolus of insulin to cover it. 90 minutes later, I felt like cr*p. Luckily I figured it out but I had to go lay down on the couch for a while because I was so nauseous, until I was sure I'd be OK.

Now lunch. What will I forget next?!?!?

BTW, I realize that my LJ has been pretty content-free lately. There just hasn't been much going on. I should post new baby rat photos, though; the babies are 2 to 3 weeks old and *adorable*!!!

You need to supplement your auto-pump setup with additional insulin shots?

Yes. It is set up for "basal" rates of insulin 24/7. This is just the amount of insulin my body needs to to do normal blood glucose "housekeeping." But whenever I eat something containing carbohydrates, I have to give myself a bolus of insulin to cover those carbs so my blood glucose doesn't shoot up too much. And if for some reason I have high BG, I give myself a bolus to bring it down.

So I have aboout 22 units of insulin per day as "basal" doses, spread out over 24 hours (and with a slightly higher rate just before dawn, because other hormone changes tend to cause BG to rise then.) And then probably about 15-20 units for food, at roughly 1 unit per 12 to 15 grams of carbohydrate. 100 "units" of insulin is 1 milliliter.

I like reading about your absent-mindedness. I can relate and feel more assured about myself.
