Sometimes an "extra" baby gets hidden in the nest somewhere, and I don't find it right away.

Houdina is a great mama, and very nice about letting me take her out of the cage so I can handle her babies. They are now about 30 hours old, and I have already held them three times!

I gotta say, I like rats just fine (used to have one as a pet), but until the babies have some hair on them, I think they look icky. Holding a pile of them all squirming around like that would give me the heebie-jeebies.

I don't consider baby rats to be cute until they have fur and start being interactive.

At ~3 weeks, when they start running around and playing they're extremely cute.

Sneaky bubs. Expecting the same black/high white mix with these guys? rexes? (yes, I have a rex thing)

No rexes... but this bunch will be black and white, and blue and white, and there are two that look to be (bad) meezers or some very dilute blue. Markings are coming in and they are adorable!
