I stayed home from work to day because of the heat. I can work from home and am getting a bit done, so there was no reason for me to venture out.

Oddly enough, though, I went outside recently and because there is a breeze, I didn't find it all that unpleasant. It is actually cooler than yesterday (about 93 degrees) right now, but the hottest part of the day is still coming.

At the same time, I am not so happy when folks say, "Oh, it's not *that* hot." It. Is. That. Hot. This is not the time to go dicksizing.

I too am getting tired of people who think that having less trouble functioning in temperature extremes implies some kind of moral superiority. I have a ranty lj post brewing in my head on this issue, but I may leave it there.

Frome where I sit - THAT HOT is outside 105F. In my non-airconditiond house, with the (small) de-humidifier running fill tilt and windows closed since yesterday morning 89F and not uncomfortablly humid.

The national weather service has issued a high heat warning for Southern NH and Coastal Maine, you folks closer to boston can look up your own zip codes.

'Dicksizing'! Now there is a good concept. Can't you see going up to the fast food counter, ordering your food, and getting asked, "Would you like that dicksized?" And then, I suppose, if you said yes, you would sneer intimidatingly at the person behind the counter, or at a special camera, and your order would be sized according to your amount of 'tude.

I believe that I should credit lyonesse for introducing that word into my vocabulary. It's certainly a common enough phenomenon in our social circle.
