Naku update
May. 25th, 2006 11:17 pmDr. Pam came over yesterday and got Naku out from behind the couch, held her and petted her a little bit, and then handed her to me. I set her down at my side and rubbed her ears -- which she liked, although she was utterly terrified. Dr. Pam examined her spay incision, which looks fine, and pronounced Naku slightly dehydrated, but otherwise doing well. There is now a water bowl near the couch, and someone drank from it today. I cannot tell which cat it was, of course.
Tonight, I took Naku a new toy -- a feather on the end of a stick, with a little bell. And she played! She did not come out from under/behind the couch, but I shoved it aside so there was a foot-wide gap between it and the wall, and she was distracted enough that she actually was pouncing on the toy. She bit it, and got a little bit of feather in her mouth, and made funny faces. Dr. Pam says she likes feathers, and bells.
My only concern is that she has pissed on the couch several times. This may be just from nerves, or not understanding that her litter box is, in fact, a litter box (I may have to try an uncovered one, and put some Spook poop in it.) In any case, the couch is a futon couch, so the futon can be replaced if it picks up a permanent odor, which it has not so far. And the couch can be moved somewhere else if necessary.
