Neko --> Naku
May. 17th, 2006 06:41 pmYes, her name is correctly spelled N-A-K-U and pronounced nuh-KOO
She was not thrilled to be stuffed into a carrier and taken away; she has lived in the HMS colony her entire life, and has never even been outside. She basically crouched down and made herself as small as possible and shivered a lot. She didn't make a sound after a very big HISS! when she got stuffed into the carrier.
The trip home was much better than this morning's trip into Boston. I left the Children's Hospital garage, which cost $30, at about 4:30 and got to the vet at 5:45. There was a minor screw-up with the vet office, which means about $75 in unanticipated charges for bloodwork and disease testing, but that's OK.
I will get her back on Friday (which means working at home that day; I'm glad that I can.) Hopefully I'll be able to get some photos before she disappears under the couch. She is small and grey and has HUGE yellow eyes.
By the way -- there is another cat available for adoption, a black and white bobtail adult female. The woman who was my line into the colony was forced to resign from her job this week (thanks to some ugly internal politics involving members of a certain Harvard department who just do not understand that the lab vet's job is NOT to cover for them when they violate animal welfare laws), but I still have contacts there if anyone is interested in adopting a retired breeding cat.
