Much of the afternoon and evening were spent worrying about the dog's toilet habits. She didn't, um, eliminate for hours and hours after her arrival. Ben's father rivalled any parent I know in the amount of attention he paid to what was happening -- or not. (The dog likes privacy; she likes to "go" in the bushes. But most of the bushes on our property also are home to poison ivy. The poison ivy isn't up yet, but it will be, before Ben's parents get back from Ireland to reclaim their dog.)
Second only to worry about the dog's output is worry about the dog's input. Ben's parents disagree over whether it is OK to feed the dog or give her water just before she goes to sleep. As is true in many families, "mom" is the softie here... "Dad" wants to be more strict, because input, after all, affects output.
In the category of TMI, I also figure that a dog who likes to chew on used tissues might also be interested in used feminine hygeine products, so I have to put them in the trash in my room, which is off-limits to the dog.
