Something I ate today is causing rather unpleasant gaseous emanations. Luckily no one but me and the critters are subjected to this, but I'm supposed to go see some folks this evening, and...

Simethicone works somewhat in the long run, but it pushes the gas out first which causes increased flatulence in the short run.

Gas-X (and other simethicone products) don't reduce the amount of air in your system, they just make passing it smoother (and silenter). If the problem is noise, it's a good solution. If the problem is more olfactory in nature, then carbon or chlorophyll help--try parsely or burnt toast. (You can also get CharcoCaps.)

Common culprits are foods that induce swallowing air (gum, soda, beer), cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, kale), legumes (beans, soy), lactose in intolerant people (dairy products, except usually yogurt), and eating too fast (which makes you swallow air).
