Apparently clothing emblazoned with MILF is what they're trying to sell in the malls these days. Along with playboy bunnies logo gear, shirts that read "Fetish" (in GIRLS sizes) etc. for the MILFs' daughters.
Apparently there was someone who registered a license plate (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0721041plate1.html) that read "GOT MILF" until someone complained to the DMV, who'd had no clue what it was about. It was then rescinded.
I don't mind MILF too much, since it does at least signify an appreciation of the 30 and 40-somethings (who have often been treated as "over the hill" by the porn industry), but the word "pimp" is supposed to be cool now too... and THAT is just wrong.
I think Jen's comment hits the nail pretty much on the head - it depends on how you're thinking about the "mom" in MILF. I can easily tick off at least a dozen moms in our crowd who are quite sexy and desireable (heck, I'm married to one of 'em :) while at the same time not having any interest in women of my mother's age.
Likewise I hope that the next generation of kids grows up to appreciate the sexiness and beauty of people of a wider variety of ages than I did. Our culture continues to have an unhealthy fetish with the beauty of youth and consequent discarding of women once they're past their obvious youthful appearance stages.
So, yeah, MILF is kind of an unpleasant phrase, but I'm not horribly bothered by it.
