Fabric Place
Sep. 10th, 2005 11:16 amSo... Fabric Place is accepting applications right now, and given that I'm getting a wee bit bored at home, and like fabric and yarn, I am applying.
I need a little bit of help with the reference section. I can put down Tufts and Janet as my most recent job, but Janet doesn't want to give me a reference. Is it OK to put down Sally as an alternate reference? Going back from there, there is Sandstorm (2000-2001) and Bentley (1996-2000).
But none of these have anything to do with Fabric Place. And I haven't worked retail since a very brief experience about 20 years ago. They also give the option of providing personal references, and I am thinking of asking a couple of y'all who know my crafts (and Jill E. who doesn't have an LJ AFAIK) and know *me*.
How about Tufts (with Sally as the contact person) and two personal references?
I also need help with "Why do you want to work at Fabric Place?" I need to get *out* more, I enjoy helping people design their projects, but I don't necessarily want a career change. If I can find another P/T biostats job, I'd take it, but most are F/T so it may take a while. Working at Fabric Place in the meantime seems like a good alternative.
And... salary/wages? Does anyone know what might be typical at the moment? It's probably about 1/3 what I was making at Tufts, but I can get around that somewhat by putting down my halftime salary there (26.5 K/year) How does $9/hour sound? Or should I just leave that blank?
I should get the application turned in tomorrow at the latest... and ideally would like to turn it in today on our way to a party.
Help?

Date: 2005-09-10 04:05 pm (UTC)$9/hour sounds reasonable (office temping is generally $11-$15), but be prepared to accept minimum wage.
See you later!

Date: 2005-09-10 04:40 pm (UTC)why do you want to work there? you would like a part-time job, enjoy helping people design projects and, overall, just love fabric and quilting.
wages? $9 is probably higher than what you'll be offered. It'll probably be somewhere closer to minimum wage, but might be slightly above that.
good luck and enjoy the job!

Date: 2005-09-10 10:08 pm (UTC)I would leave the salary portion blank or write in negotiable.
One work reference would be plenty the others can be personal.
Why do you want to work there, you enjoy crafting, working with fabric and helping others with their projects.
