Miscommunication all around, combined with the fact that I am extremely irritable today, means I have let down a friend. I'd like to be able to say, "you don't want my help today, really."

Ben and I also miscommunicated, and after we figured things out, he quoted Benny Hill at me, and I *hate* Benny Hill!

Wow, if someone quoted Benny Hill at *me*, I'd go ballistic. Haaate.

"Benny Hill" and "quoteworthy" are not two things I'd equate with each other.

Benny Hill does a lot of sexual and physical humor that is probably offensive to many people, but I've always liked his rare bits when he played with language.

it's a boy thing. I'm not sure I've ever found a female Benny Hill fan, for any of his work.

other boy thing; most quoting of comics and comedy troupes. I'm a huge Kids in the Hall fan, but I've never felt like reciting their routines. For the longest time I hated Monty Python, not because of anything they did, but because the geek boys around me would recite 20 minutes of it as a time, often turning it into a performance if someone else wanted to insist a parrot was dead or that they had cheese. Dull, dull, dull.

It may be a mainly boy thing, but there are exceptions & decades ago when I was single I dated a female Benny Hill fan. My wife finds BH "borderline offensive." And I? Maybe it is a boy thing, since this boy has a weakness for puerile humor.

true. though heaven help I make a post to a susboid journal and not be told, of course, of the exceptions. :-)

If you take 100 Benny Hill fans, and 99 are male, and one female, it's still a boy thing.

Can you quote an example of his language play?

I'll let [livejournal.com profile] deguspice give you the exact quote. (He's my husband, BTW!)

Unlike Thespian's friends, I don't remember many of his routines.  It's been about 20 years since I've watched his show.  But for some reason, the quote [livejournal.com profile] quietann cites stuck with me.

When you "assume" you make an "ass" out of "you" and "me".

[Benny Hill does this while writing on a blackboard and circling the various parts of the word.]

That's a wonderful quote, but it's as old as the hills & not original to BH.

I'll wait for his reply (I knew he's your husband).

I suspect that SSRI withdrawl also leaves one vulnerable to catastrophizing, so beware...
