1. I am really affected, in a bad way, by what is going on in Gaza. I lukewarmly support the pullout, mostly because it will allow the Israeli military to give other tasks to those 40,000 or so soldiers who have been protecting the 8000 residents of the Gaza settlements. But I don't expect peace now, and not in my lifetime most likely. My goal for the next week or two is to avoid the news, beyond the bare minimum. This means switching all the radios in the house from WBUR to WXRV. Music instead of madness.

2. Baby rats!

I wonder if you could pose a bunch of baby rats in the shapes of letters to create an alphabet? (the babies in the middle picture could be 'u')

That's just hte BOYS from that litter. They have four sisters for a total of 18 wiggleworms! Poor Paige must be getting the life sucked out of her, but I'm sure she's an awesome mommy.

yep, those are Paige's. And you are right; she is an awesome mama. Loves her kids, doesn't mind me messing with them, always greets me at the cage door. And she isn't thin (yet, anyway...)

very cute rat puddle.

I know what you mean about the disengagement. I'm reading about it because not knowing is worse than knowing. I saw your comments in WJ and glanced back here to make passing conversation. It's really a divisive topic of conversation among my other Jewish friends - we've all just left it off the table to save hurt feelings. We can't change anything, and I'm naively hoping that it might give everybody the distance to eventually move closer to peace. I'm with you - some of the things said by the settler children were really disturbing.

It's been really tough, trying to stay quiet about it. I am mostly trying to avoid the news until it's over. I'd say that most of my friends lean pro-disengagement, but with real reservations about how it's being done, and what the larger political aims might be on both sides. The whole situation is bad, no matter how you look at it!

oi the ratties are just too cute! :D i would like to ask you and maybe you could answer - where can you get a domesticated rat around nyc? i've been looking all over and can't find any... just the ones they sell at petco as... (i can't even type it) well, for other purposes than a pet-companion-rat :-\ i had a rat a couple of years ago and it was the best creature ever!
tnx in advance for any info you can give me...

I am not super- up on breeders in NYC but I know they exist! Or... if you want babies (boys) from me, we might be able to arrange transport at least part way :) I have a lot of very cute little guys looking for homes; I had an unexpected baby explosion! webpage is http://andoverrattery.home.comcast.net/

Hi there.
I linked over from the Boston community just out of curiosity.
Many times I have said that I never ever thought I would call a rat "cute" but then again, here I am...

"Awwww...how cute" :)

Seems by your profile that we have a few things in common! Figured I'd say hello!

Hello quietann,
I was told to contact you about possibly getting a pet rat, and I see by your journal that you have quite a few! :) feel free to email me at carpenter.t AT gmail.com when you get a chance.
