Hopefully, tonight Ben and I will purchase a new mattress at Jordan's. We tried some out last night, and, well, *anything* is better than the current very very hard futon. (I have arthritic shoulders and, I suspect, my hips are starting to go, too.) But what we are leaning towards is a medium-soft, pillowtop mattress. (BTW, we sleep on a full, which these days is considered inadequate. But we are short, and fairly small, and sleep snuggled up. Moving up to a queen would be challenging, for reasons I won't go into beyond saying that they have something to do with a Lotus Elan frame being part of our bed...)

However, all the getting up and down from mattresses sent my left shoulder and arm into screaming agony. It's still there, to some degree, this morning. Ben has set a realistic limit of $1000 for a mattress (we don't need a box spring.) but I am half tempted to just go in there and start laying down on mattresses until I find the one that does not make my shoulder scream, and buy that, even if it costs $3000. Yes, there are $3000 mattresses at Jordan's...

BTW, Priscilla the rat popped. I don't know how many babies she has yet, beyond lots (which is a given with rats), because she's sitting on them.

I spent more than $1000 on my mattress, and while over the following few weeks, I agonized over the decision, I do believe it was the right thing to do. It's around four years old now (and has a twenty-year warranty) and feels good as new. Feels rather wonderful, too. A good bed is *so* important. Think about the number of hours you spend in it, after all, and how much you spent on things that are far less significant to your health and well-being.

we left far more than $1K behind for our mattress. We got a select comfort with two zones so we can have the different pressures we like. I tend to sleep at a much firmer setting than she does.

We have a series 5000 pillowtop, and although it was a great many cents, it was worth them. She doens't think she would have survived the pregnancy without it.

a Lotus Elan frame being part of our bed...

So Ben really does sleep with his cars! I guess that explains a lot ;)

As for the mattress... seriously. Get the best one for your body. Some folks can sleep on just about anything, other folks need something that's Just Right. You sound like you're in the latter category. Spend the money. The mattress will far outlive the hit to the budget, and your body will thank you. As the Visa commercial says, awakening without pain is ...priceless.

very comfy....and unlike the tempurpedics which cost 3x as much you can replace the memory foam when it wears out in 5-7 years.

except this is not the babies born today; it's the babies born two and a half weeks ago...

The litter born today has 15 babies, and mom is doing great with them. With a litter this big, I won't be surprised if I lose one or two, however.
