Mouse Tale

So, as usual, we have a constant invasion of mice into our house. Ben set up the Hav-A-Heart trap (we are softies; we trap the critters and let them go several miles away) on Wednesday, and Thursday morning, there was, by his description, a "Big Fat Pissed-Off Mouse" in the trap. Late Thursday afternoon, he called me about the shopping list, and said, "Oh yeah, I need to remember to take the mouse with me."

A bit later, he left me a voicemail, roughly like this: "It's too late to release the mouse; it's multiplied!" The big, fat, pissed-off mouse was PREGNANT, and had her babies in the trap. He discovered this when he picked up the trap and a baby mouse peeped. So the mouse must have been pissed-off because we kept her from getting back to her nice warm nest to have her babies.

Mama Mouse is now raising her babies in the trap, which we have put into a 10-gallon aquarium. We gave her a lot of tissues, and she has a nice nest. When she's not nursing, she spends a lot of time hanging upside down from the screen on top of the tank. She's not that scared of us. The babies have gone from little pink jelly beans to brown and white "fuzzies." They'll be very cute in just over a week ([livejournal.com profile] kirkcudbright and [livejournal.com profile] gatewaygirl, this might be a good time to bring Kylie over...) When they are 3-4 weeks old, they and mama will be evicted...

If the file that I put in each folder so you can take over my data analysis is called README.TXT, isn't that a hint that if you read the file, you might not have to ask me as many stupid questions?
