grumble

so I missed a party last night, one I really wanted to go to, especially after Ben told me who was there (all my favorite people, and only one person who gives me the heebie-jeebies -- though he doesn't know it, and mostly the Suburban Suspects, who really are my favorites, as a group).

The work network crashed at about 4, and I sat around, occasionally trying to log back in, until about 5:30. Since I'd committed to taking the 6:25 train, I decided to walk to North Station. It was pleasantly warm, but not hot. I stopped at Haymarket and bought cherries ($5 for a 2-pound bag, not bad, and they have turned out to be absolutely perfect). Somewhere between there and North Station, I started feeling icky. And several minutes after arriving at North Station, I threw up in a trash can. Bleargh.

So, thinking "dehydration" I bought a bottle of water and drank it slowly (because sometimes water will reactivate the vomiting). And got on the train. [livejournal.com profile] marmota got on at West Medford; he'd left messages on my cell phone about getting a ride to the party, but my cellphone may still be in France. He let me borrow his phone to call Ben, and we agreed to meet at home so Ben could give him a ride to the party. While using the phone, I got a serious heavy sweat, and it got all over his phone, which was annoying and embarassing.

Eventually I got home, and got all embarassed again because [livejournal.com profile] marmota is NOT someone I want to let see the house right now, especially with the 2 remaining super-stinky rat cages right by the door. I decided to nap for a little bit and go to the party later, but I never made it. I continued to feel a little nauseous, and didn't want to take the chance of spreading something contagious at a party, especially a party where there were at least 3 babies.

Today... still a little nauseous, but I am convinced that it is the heat.

I missed the party for similar reasons... had to wait for the bus outdoors for 30 minutes, then waited at the train station for Wolf for a similar amount of time, and I was just cooked. I was a bit peeved, but I have learned that I can't really expect to get to Friday night things.

I'm sorry you're sick; I missed you at the party (Andy had told me where you were). Hope you feel better soon. The heat really can't help. And thanks for the postcard for H*!

Sorry to hear you were so sick!

There were many many babies and many small children. You also may not have enjoyed the ensuing chaos. :-)

True enough. I just read [livejournal.com profile] chhotii's post about how everyone fled inside because of the bugs, and yeah, that might have been more than I could have dealt with. But I could have gone to the party later (around 9:30) when at least some of the kids would have been gone.

Several people with small kids ARRIVED at 9pm. I was surprised.

well, we have some nocturnal kids in the crowd, like [livejournal.com profile] candlelight's two. They tend to do fine, because they are used to being up half the night.

I know how you feel. I soooooo wanted to go to the party but I was in no mental mood to deal. I thought it would be best for all the people at the party and me at home to stay at home.

You're in good company... I missed the party too. I had to be up waaay too early on Saturday so I didn't think a Friday party would play well with that plan...

It was annoying. We actually had to be up early today, too; Ben came home at about 11:30 and was in bed by midnight. I am feeling much better now!

BTW could you email me the photo of Myrtle you are using as your icon?

Sorry you're not feeling well. I had noticed you weren't at the party and had wondered what was up.
