1. A gorgeous, *big* mare of typical French breeding. Le Cadre Noir doesn't breed its own horses, but chooses a small number of registered French bloodstock each year. Except for being female, she's a good example of what they get.
   
   
   
   
2. A Lusitano stallion. The headmaster of Le Cadre Noir is the only one who rides a grey or white horse, and the only one who rides a stallion. This guy is the "understudy" for the current one.
   
   
   
   
3. This horse is a current champion Grand Prix level dressage competitor. His rider is one of the Cadre Noir instructors.
   
   
   
   
4. The horses are not always well-behaved -- this one is trying to eat his way out of his stall!

Oh, they are so beautiful! I used to ride a fair amount as a teenager, but haven't been on a horse since 1994 I think. Actually brought tears to my eyes. (Yes, yes, some hormonal shite going on too... ;) )

Lusitanos are really, really special. Le Cadre Noir imports them from Portugal, one every few years. This guy is about 7 years old and super-friendly. Apparently they are one of the few breeds where the boys function better as riding horses if they are left unadjusted.
