You really want to go here. I am not even from New York and it has me giggling... Might not be entirely work-safe; it's only text, but occasionally slightly off-color.

Myrtle is doing much better. She doesn't like this hot compress thing *at all*. Last night she growled at me while I was holding the compress to her face. But, the swelling is all gone, and except for having a little shaved spot and a few half-shaved whiskers, she is back to her usual self (though more cranky). She has stopped trying to get upstairs since I found her heated Kozy Kup bed, which she had previously ignored. Now both she and Spook are sleeping in it, often together.

Edit: fixed the link

The New York Times used to have a column on Wednesdays called "Metropolitan Diary" that was a collection of random quotes and scenes from Manhattan.  It was the first thing I read on Wednesdays when I got the NYT.

I remember that. One of my favorite stories was from a youngish man who was at Zabar's one day and got smacked somewhat hard by the large bag some old woman was carrying. When he complained to her, she said, "Young man, if you're that sensitive, you shouldn't be shopping at Zabar's." Hee!
