make-up, schmake-up
Feb. 24th, 2005 01:58 pmWell, Wild Oats *could* have sold me the very perfect and very expensive all-natural blusher last night, if they'd had anyone at the makeup counter besides a cranky woman doing stocking who just ignored me. But I did buy mascara, because they had brown mascara which is not always easy to find, and it did not require store personnel to get to.
And I put some on when I got to work, and remembered why I don't like it -- it smudges. No matter what. And I don't like the effect *that* much.
So... eyeshadow? Is it worth it for someone who wears glasses? And no, I won't wear blue or green eye shadow! Just something shimmery and pinkish.
I filled in the rest of the makeup with concealer (absolutely necessary in my case), powder I already have, lipstick I already have (though it's basically the same color as my lips...), and blusher that I think is a reasonable approximation to the one I saw at Wild Oats.
later, I may go to yet another CVS for eye shadow or something.
I did, however, get a very nice black satin evening bag with a little multicolored fake crystal clasp.
bleah!

Date: 2005-02-24 07:45 pm (UTC)I'd go with one that's a three color package: shimmery and pinkish, less shimmery and (dark) purple, and possibly gold or mid-purple for the third. Actually, it's a darned shame I won't be seeing you before then. I have one just like that I bought a while ago when I was replacing all my makeup, and I've never actually worn it.
Hmm. Maybe I'll have a go at wearing makeup every once in a while, considering that I went to the trouble of buying it and all.
Oh, and if you feel like buying more lipstick or replacing the one you have for any reason, Burt's Bees makes a very nice colored lip gloss which is now the only lipstick I buy. It even tastes reasonably good.

Date: 2005-02-24 08:25 pm (UTC)I'd advise against pinkish eyeshadow in general, since the wrong shade can make you look a little ill -- but if you have good color sense, I retract the caution. Taupe and shimmery looks good on nearly everyone. If you're at CVS, look at Revlon's cream eyeshadow (they come in palettes of 4 colors), and go for a good taupe or plummy toned palette. Or hit Sephora and look at their tubes of cream eyeshadow (or go for Urban Decay -- either powder or cream. Great fun, that). There's a Sephora in the Burlington Mall, and another in the Pru mall.,
I recommend cream shadow over powder with certain reservations -- I've recommended specific brands that don't "crease" (melt into the crease of your eyelid). Powder also creases, and, for those of us of "a certain age," can drift into the lines around your eyes.
Some time when we're at the same gathering, I'd love a chance to play with your face a bit, if you don't mind. It'll all wash off, I promise. :-}
