I've put this behind a cut, as it concerns foods and digestion...

yesterday, I ate way more protein than I usually do. First at a friend's barbeque, I had about 8 spicy chicken wings, and a hamburger. Then we went to some other friends' house, and I had a bunch of take-out mozzarella sticks. (I almost ordered chicken tenders, but then I realized they'd be nowhere near as good as the wings I had had earlier.) I think that for some reason I just really wanted "oompf" food... substantial and lasting food.

Normally I eat one or two protein-intense meals a day, with 2-4 ounces of protein. (so at the BBQ, I would have had maybe 4 or 5 chicken wings, or just the hamburger and no wings. And at the friend's house, I would have eaten maybe 4 mozz sticks instead of 7 or 8...) I'm trying to keep my kidneys happy, since I have diabetes... and being fairly careful about protein is the way to go. (A friend who has diabetic kidney disease is limited to 25 grams of protein a day. He finds it very difficult to keep under that limit... That would be about 2 glasses of milk, OR one smallish hamburger, while also being careful that the starchy foods one ate were very low in protein.)

All last night, I felt very groggy. I didn't sleep well, and this morning my digestive system was just... weird. Nothing terribly disgusting, just clearly unsettled by the big protein hit. Sigh.

I suppose that the people who go on super high protein diets adjust, but I don't envy them that process...

My guess is that there's a pretty wide variety in what people thrive on... I was doing great this summer (felt peppy and healthy) on high-protein, high fat, no wheat, low carbs and lots of veggies. (basically, caveman diet.) Whatever...

I find high protein works well for me, but high fat makes me feel like you're describing.
