As for you being 41...
WTF?????
In all honesty, I would have guessed early to mid 30's. IN the photo, you can pass for much younger than that. You're clearly far more photogenic than I. (I tend to look 30 pounds heavier and 10 years older in most photos.)

I still get carded occasionally. A few years ago, I got carded at a bar, and the barmaid thought my ID was fake... until I pointed out to her that if it was, it would have said my birthdate was in 1974, not 1964. She was amused...

>I have "age spots" on my skin
Never noticed them.
>my body shape is definitely shifting towards middle-aged
Well, if in men, a pot belly and receding hairline constitute a "Middle Aged" look, then I've been Middle Aged since I was 20.
>I have arthritis in my shoulders and hands
Broken bones and Lyme's Disease can do the same thing.
>and the skin on my hands definitely looks its age.
The condition of the skin on one's hands is, from what I've seen, more a matter of what that skin has gone through than the age of the person with said hands. The worst, most damaged and wrinkled set of hands I ever saw were NOT on my grandmother or grandfather, but a girl I went to high school with.

*hug* Having felt like and elderly invalid when I was recovering from the broken ribs, I have no come backs for that one.

A-HA! Independent verification of my thesis that you look younger than you claim to be!

They are mostly on my torso and thighs, so not many people see them. But I have a few on my hands and face, too.

snicker. For me, well, it's the growing belly, and gravity pulling everything down elsewhere...
>>I have arthritis in my shoulders and hands

true enough. In my case, the shoulder problems are not age related. The biggest hand issue is that the knuckle on my ring finger is swollen so I can't wear my beautiful engagement ring anymore (it is an heirloom and cannot be resized)
>>and the skin on my hands definitely looks its age.

OK, yes. I've mucked out a lot of rat cages, gardened a lot, and washed a lot of dishes without using gloves. And only recently have I started using moisturizer on my hands...
The skin on my face looks a lot younger because I still get acne, and used a lot of Retin-A when I was younger.

well, I never denied it. It's actually a very mixed blessing, when dealing with people I need to have authority over (e.g. students).
I've been taken for a "kid genius" too many times. When I showed up at my new high school at the start of 10th grade, I was directed by my first period teacher to the "7th grade English class down the hall." He later apologized profusely. In reality, my maturation has been rather slow; I was in school more or less continuously and didn't have my first "career" until I was 32, got married at 38, etc.
I suspect I got my mom's "good genes" in this regard. She went from age 50 to age 70 looking more or less ageless; most people thought she was younger than she really was. Only in the last few years of her life did she at all resemble an old lady (and an old lady of the "old lady in tennis shoes" variety, at that...)

Date: 2005-01-17 07:34 pm (UTC)the boys are doing really well. keep trying to steal each other's baytril. yesterday Bo, the black one, discovered and worked up the nerve to jump off the open cage onto the floor, which he hadn't done in months of having the cage open when i am home. now that he knows he can do it, he's become quite the escape artist. there will be some furniture rearranging soon to try to make this a bit more difficult for him.
btw, i notice the baby pictures from their litter aren't on the website anymore. any chance you could email me their baby photos? i like to show them off to fellow vet students :) thanks :)
