I am in San Diego.

Ben gave me a ride to the airport in our new truck! The flight out was uneventful, except for too many crying babies (please, can there be no kids sections in airplanes?), and well, *almost* touching down in Philly only to be suddenly and swiftly flying *up*. It turns out that there was some confusion at the last second about whether the plane I was on was cleared for landing, so the pilot quite wisely decided to go back up and try again. Whoops.

It is too completely lovely here.

I needed to get away, having pissed off an entire LJ community... if I have aspergers it comes out on the net. sigh. But of course the LJ community followed me out here...

I think, on the net, it's too easy for people to read their own biases/knee-jerk reactions into things. I personally thought that you made it *completely* clear that this was all your view, you weren't imposing it on anyone, you just wondered how people felt about the issues. So, feh on people who have to take offense at everything. Remember, these are the same people who flamed me and [livejournal.com profile] teddywolf for being upset that an Orthodox rabbi didn't consider me Jewish.

Wait, when did you piss off an entire community?

Did you post to some "Pet Rats are Evil" LJ group? Did some fundies see the treads about trucks and "romantic interludes?"

It was weirdjews. If you want to view the damage, go ahead...

The thing that got me the most is that one of the most wise members of the community left it over all the fighting I caused.

'Tis kinda amusing that you've managed to annoy self-proclaimed "weird Jews". OTOH, perhaps they're only flaming and don't really mean you any evil? Net geeks can easily be like that, and, well, "Two Jews -- three opinions", vigorous argumentation is well within the Jewish traditions, too.

You probably could have posted your questions in forms that were less inflammatory. BUT...I've also read [livejournal.com profile] weirdjews from time to time and have come to the conclusion that it's populated mainly by people who like to argue and judge each other a lot and who aren't nearly as tolerant as the community name might suggest. Yeah, there are some cool people there (like [livejournal.com profile] xiphias, to name one), but I've gotten irked every time I've poked my nose in there, thereby erasing any desire I might have to join and read more. I've already got That Mailing List for that kind of thing and I don't need more of it.

yeah, weirdjews isn't as weird as it thinks it is, by and large. But I'm pretty darn alienated myself these days from things Jewish, so maybe my own frustrations get projected on the discussion.

I think weirdjews is kind of getting taken over by the frum. I clearly misinterpreted what the "weird" in "weirdjews" means.

I've asked to join the liberaljews community and will see how that goes.

I followed you here briefly after you mentioned it. I just want to make one comment. If you have a problem with people from WJ reading your posts, why not make the ones concerning the community friends-only?

It's not being taken over by the frum. But when you post questions that are pre-biased in a certain way, you have to expect Orthodox (and some others) to want to protect our way of life. I'm an Orthodox Jew. I will always stand up for my way of life. And the questions you ask, as someone else said, are stated not as questions, and whatever we say won't make a difference, because you already know what you want to hear - and only those who say that to you will be listened to.

IMHO, you shouldn't be in the community. You've just been flaming it over the past week or two, and it's getting really old. It's obviously not right for you. So stop posting and whining about the problems with it, leave, and write about your issues somewhere else. Otherwise you'll just a) upset more people and b) upset yourself. and c) increase your bias even more against the Orthodox.

I actually don't have a problem with WJ people reading this. I do friends-lock a lot of posts.

The people who made snide comments about me did it in WJ, not here.

I perhaps have not expressed enough that I have learned things (in between all the shouting). Getting the halachikally correct view on things is useful to me, even if I think it's wrong.

I think I will just be reading, for now.
