Apparently an LJ post that I thought got eaten just got lost somewhere, and is now found.
It was written on Wednesday, which was one of the worst days of my life. I changed the date so people can see it now.
I fell into brief hysterics this morning. I now have no doubt that my teaching boss is wondering about the state of my mental health. With good reason.
I am still teaching tonight, with a partial lecture that may not be copied for the students until Monday. Ben is giving me a ride in. Major gaffe on my part, but it was that or cancel class.
I actually did cancel, and then uncancelled. And lied like shit about it. I hope these guys are forgiving when they do their evaluations.
If the next presidential election is anything like this one, I am going to take a 5 week unpaid leave of absence -- 4 weeks before to help campaign, and 1 week after to recover.
To the doctor(s) in the audience: I was supposed to get my stitches out today. Tomorrow is 2 weeks post-surgery. Can I wait until next week? (or does anyone know a doctor locally who could just take them out for me?)
Unlike many of you, I am numb. Just numb. Somewhere in the back of my brain I am torn up over living in a nation where the majority of the population is stupid.
update from then: I am still numb, and scared, and not nearly as angry as one might imagine. I suspect that the anger will come later.
My class went reasonably OK, given that I had about 1/2 of a lecture for them.
I got my stitches out on Thursday morning, barely. It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to get from Andover to Beth Israel in the Longwood Medical Area, thanks to unbelievable traffic and T-suckage. The incision is healing well, but needs a couple more weeks to knit together. The nurse put more Steri-strips on it, and it mostly just itches, now.
