The convoluted rat swap was accomplished. It went as follows:
3:00 Friday: ben and ann leave home with Rats A, B, and C.
5:00 Friday: ben and ann pick up rats D and E in Uxbridge and chat with their owner, L.
7:00 Friday: arrive at rein's, have dinner.
10:00 Friday: arrive at the Escher Hilton in Rye. (Why there? Because we know it. And we know where to request a room if we need to smuggle anything in, ahem.)
Spend the night is good comfort, interrupted by occasional squeaks from a cage in the tub where rats A,B, and D are getting acquainted. (Rat D holds her own, but ends up with a scratch in one ear. Rats C and E have already been introduced. Because they are males, there is but one squeak, and then they are Ok with each other.)
Have a lazy morning, breakfast buffet, then smuggle rats out of hotel, get lunch.
2:00 Saturday: arrive back at Escher Hotel parking lot just in time to give directions to R., who is lost in Westchester. Meet up with her; she takes rats A, C, and D. Rat A will be dropped off to her new owner in Philadelphia.
4:30 Saturday: get to friend E.'s place in Columbia, CT, east of Hartford. Visit and leave Rat B with her.
7:00 Saturday: dinner at the Vernon Diner. good desserts.
9:30 Saturday: back home. Rat E will soon meet his new buds...
Still upset to the point of nausea over politics. Still very very "off" in many ways. Want to do something but it all seems like too little, too late. This goes for personal stuff as well as politics.
Sleep soon.

Date: 2004-10-31 04:10 pm (UTC)I'm convinced that Get Out The Vote work is among the most important activism you could do, and it's not too late for that. If you can make a few calls on Tuesday, that would be fantastically helpful!!!
It may seem like it's too late to donate to the campaigns, because they have already bought their TV ads and nobody new is going to be convinced at this point. But, if the election is as close as those (probably systemmatically biased) polls say, then in a few days, we will be in a new battle-- recounts and election fraud litigation. For this reason, I'd recommend, if you can squeeze any money out of anywhere to donate, give to Kerry's General Legal and Accounting Fund, which the FEC has ruled may spend money on recounts. Or, maybe some of the 527's may be involved in the litigation; Election Protection is funneling money into groups such as NAACP's Voter Fund. Look into opportunities like these to help out in the post-11/2 battle if you actually believe that the election will be close.
