We let the baby mice go in the back yard today. On the way out, we interrupted a mother deer and her 2 fawns, who were grazing in the fields. The neighbors may dislike us for harboring deer, but that is too bad.

There were 3 baby mice alive. We discovered that one baby mouse and the mama mouse had died; that explains the bad smell a few days ago. But clearly the remaining babies are big enough to be on their own, since mama's been dead for a while.
