Anti-gliadin antibodies are back now. IGA, the one that is very specific to celiac disease, is normal. But IGG is *very* high. IGG can be high due to other GI problems; also some people are IGA-deficient so they will never have a high IGA result even if they have celiac disease.

I rather suspect that I'll be having a biopsy soon...

However, my overall attitude is positive. If cutting gluten out of my diet will ease the depression, lethargy, and "just not feeling well" I've experienced for most of my adult life, that is a good thing.

I knew a few people in California who were on a gluten free diet. While
some of it is annoying, there were places they could go for food, and we ate out together a bunch. It's a very livable lifestyle.

Poor thing! Hope it becomes clear soon, and if a gluten-free diet can fix it, I know people on them and they can find satisfying foods to eat. Good luck!

I'll still be able to have my wine, ya know :)

FWIW I found out there is spelt matoz available.

Also, it is fairly easy to make. A few rules to keep it kashroot, like you have 18 minutes from the moment the water hits the flour to when you take it out of the oven, so it's good to do in small batches, but it seems fun and easy. I bet you could make a date with someone like Michelle, who also doesn't eat wheat and does Jewish things and have a matza making party. :> (I'd join in just for the fun)

spelt is actually not OK for the gluten-free diet. It's very close to wheat in content.

There is $$very$$ $$expensive$$ oak matzah (yes, made of acorns!) available each year around Passover.

But we'll see what's going on when I get to Passover.

p.s. I don't know if you've been to Whole Foods recently but they have a paper on the wheat free products in the store, and have little signs all over the place on their products that are gluten free, making it very easy (realtively speaking) to find the wheat free stuf. They also have a section of wheat free things, but there's alot more around the store if you just look for what you want... like spagetti, best just go to the spagetti isle and you'll find a few gluten free types.

We have Wild Oats up here; they do the same thing.

I think the at-home part of eating will be fine; it's the eating out that may go out the window...

Gee, I should read up on this.

I hope there's gluten-free rice (or rice gluten is a non-problem). I love rice.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, hon!

*hugs*

Rice is fine. The "gluten" in rice isn't the same kind of gluten.

Unfortunately, I really don't like rice very much at all. In fact, when eating at an Asian restaurant, I usually ask for noodles instead of rice. Sigh.

There are a lot of gluten-free pastas and other products available, though. I just think that eating out is going to become a complete PITA.
