Worldcon, first evening
Sep. 3rd, 2004 03:30 pmI was *extremely* cranky when I got to the Worldcon last night, but it turned out that mostly I just needed to eat dinner. Ben and I went to the food court at the Prudential Center (which is a *good* food court by the way), and ran into
ceo and
gosling. I hadn't seen them in several weeks, so this was a good thing. They invited me up to their room to hang out while
gosling changed clothes after dinner. It turned out that she wanted to show off her very nicely pregnant belly, and had Sharpie markers for decorating it, so I drew vines and flowers on her belly. That was fun (and got her a lot of compliments when she went back to the con). She's one of those people who just makes one feel good about oneself by being in their presence.
Worldcon did a "First Night" celebration last night, with booths and games and good socializing in the Hynes Center. Ben helped supervise the Arisia Bouncy Castle. (hint: Belly dancers in a Bouncy Castle should not be missed!) I wandered around a bit, but mostly hung out with the Arisia folks. First Night was a *huge* success.
We went to the 2007 bid parties afterwards, and I have decided to support the Yokohama bid. Yes, it's expensive to travel there, but it's just so clear that the Japanese fen really, *really* want to host the Worldcon.
Now I am home feeding rats and watering the garden, and soon to return. It is a very good Worldcon so far.
