Well, I got caught in that big storm this afternoon. I was in Wild Oats trying to figure out whether to buy lamb chops to cut up for a dish I was making, or go to Market Basket to see if they had lamb stew meat already cut. And the sky got very dark, and then just.... opened. It has been a LONG time since I have seen rain that hard.
I did end up going to MB, which did not have lamb stew cubes, but did have ground lamb. I managed to get completely soaked in very short order, and the rain was blowing sideways. eep!
When I headed back on Rt. 133, when I got close to the IRS processing center in Andover (where your tax returns go if you live anywhere in the Northeast), there was a car and a minivan stuck in about 2 feet of water in front of the IRS. As Ben put it, "The IRS always finds a way to soak you." I turned my car around and took a different route home, not wanting to chance stalling out in the shallower water on my side of the road.
Came home, cooked a dish I dubbed "Middle Eastern Meatballs with Apricots"** and then we went to a party in Milford, primarily attended by Noreascon staff and costumers. Spent much time chatting with Bridget and Alex and admiring Aileen, who is standing up on her own (at least for a few seconds) and is clearly a very happy baby.
** consisting of onions browned in olive oil, meatballs made of ground lamb, canned garbanzo beans, chopped dried apricots, LOTS of cinnamon, and a little pepper, all mixed together and simmered for an hour. This reminds me that Once Upon a Time, I cooked a lot, and really enjoyed it.
