I need another hobby like I need an extra hole in my head, but I just went and bought some big chunky yarn and large knitting needles and a beginner's knitting book. eep! I will be seeing some folks tonight who know their knitting...

I'm a crocheter. One hook seems less complicated than two. However... here are some reasons to take up knitting:

-- knitting results in a less bulky and therefor softer look and texture.
-- more patterns are available for knitted stuff
-- great big yarn looks better knitted than crocheted.
-- I'm tired of people asking me "what are you knitting?" when I am actually crocheting!

Helpful tip: Learn "continental style" rather than "English style," also known as picking vs. throwing. If you're an experienced crocheter, it will come more easily to you, and it moves a lot faster with a lot less strain on your hands.

Totally agree. You hold the yarn the same way as you did while crocheting, and for me the tension is always the same. My brain just can't get around the "English Style" knitting, somehow having to let go of one of the needles for each stitch, then re-grab it, messes with not only my tension but the action of knitting English Style is just not "smooth".

Well, I still want to see the crocheted cables book. :)

(And I know there are "converting knit patterns to crochet" books out there... wonder if that covers point 2...)

So... you're a crotchety crocheter?
