foot suckage

So, for about 8 years now, I have had this huge wart on the ball of my left foot. I've started but not completed treatment a couple of times, and last spring I finally got off my butt and started again. I've now had 6 liquid nitrogen treatments, and have been putting med-plast 40% salycylic acid bandages on the damn thing, and it isn't going away. In fact, my dermatologist thinks it's getting bigger, and deeper into my foot.

This may mean I have to have surgery on it, either regular surgery or laser surgery. In a last-ditch effort to avoid this, my derm. prescribed a topical immune enhancer, Aldara (imiquimod) cream. It's normally used for external genital warts.

I was quite amused at my dermatologist's embarassment about prescribing me a medicine for an STD; he even told me he was specifically putting on the prescription that I was to use it for a FOOT wart, not a genital wart. He's a cute, boyishly mundane guy, who spends most of his time treating bored, upper-class adolescents with acne, and their mothers who are developing skin cancer from Too Much Tennis, and want prescriptions for the Latest Anti-Wrinkle Cream. I really should have told him that I know _all_ about genital warts :)

I am to make an appointment with a podiatrist, and schedule surgery if the Aldara hasn't helped by the time I see him/her. Sigh

i had a series of plantar (?) warts on the soles of my feet and my thumbs for years - they went away after a summer in which i was working at the college coffee shop and drank lots of a particular smoothie containing huge amounts of b-vitamins. i've never been quite sure that it was directly attributable, but that was six years ago and i haven't had any since.

anyway, hope it helps and you can avoid the surgery!
