They still have a function. Dominance and posturing. In one sense, it's an enforcing of corporate heirarchy in saying "To remind you that you work for me and I can make you do things, you will wear this tie". In another sense, it's a dominance display, when you consider the way the alpha types sniff around each other by looking at their ties; is it silk? a designer logo? old school colors?

If men can run the world
Of course it's a myth that "men" run the world. Some men have a lot of power; most of them don't. Men are most definitely not in it together. That's all rather obvious, but it's also a common fallacy.
