Yes, it is a real festival.

At some point I should show you the cartoon we have about Red Pandas. It's from the studio that produced "Spirited Away" and is about the mythology of the Red Panda's shape shifting abilities colliding with the modern world. I won't spoil the surprise, but suffice it to say the Japanese obsession with genitals play a role.
