It seems that most of my favorite clothing manufacturers are only making tank tops with built in "bras" this year. All these so-called "bras" do is squish my chest flat so it looks really weird, without providing *any* support, and I can't imagine what they'd do to someone larger-chested than I am.

Built-in "bras" only work if one is small- and firm-breasted. So I guess the rest of us don't have the right to wear tank tops that fit anymore?

Besides... I'd kind of like the ability to have a lightweight loose tank top that is not a jog bra unless i decide i want a jog bra that day... those things can be ok, but can be too warm and not light and breezy enough. Humph.

I really hate it when developers include "features" that no one wants but you can't avoid.

Kind of like the first time I met "Clippy." I believe my exact words were "What the f**** is that? Dear God that's annoying. How do I kill it?"

Do writing letters to clothing manufactures actually work?

I'm somewhat intrigued by TravelSmith's camisole with built-in bra, since it's an actual underwire bra, not a "shelf."

There are plain tank tops out there--you may have to switch retailers, but these things happen. Personally, my big miff (besides this season's colors being lime green and pink--ugh--and the proliferation of stripes--another ugh) is that none of Lane Bryant's jeans this season have tapered legs.

caveat on Travelsmith stufff...

I get their catalog, have ordered two things from them in the last few years, and will likely never get anything from them again. Their focus is on clothes that travel well, and as such their choice of material tends to be plastic and course. Granted, I'm a natural fiber junkie with sensitive skin, but consider it a data point.

(So why am I even looking at this thread? Hey, it's about clothing and breasts, two of my favorite subjcts. why wouldn't I?)

The camisoles are microfiber, which is a texture I really like. Generally I'm a big natural fiber junkie, but for me, that one's an exception.

I don't wear anything from TravelSmith, but Jason has a couple of their travel shirts and loves them (yay venting!).

Norm Thompson has tops like these in a number of fabrics -- including a halter top. I got one of the tank tops and found the fit to be a little weird, but that isn't surprising for anything involving a bra. I think I am going to try the halter top...

heh.

Not all synthetics are coarse, and not all natural fabrics don't travel well.

And one of the currently popular natural fabrics -- linen -- makes me break out in hives, so there :)

I find the built in bras over a regular bra seem to work nicely for support. (Much better then either one alone does)

hm, but... the point of a tank top is to stay cool. adding another layer seems counterproductive, somehow...

I guess, if I'd try to wear something like that, it would be a great laughing sucess...
But I am a F-cup lady. They never think of someone like me when they create fashion.
