At the clothing swap a few weeks ago, there was this wedding dress. In my book, it's an atrocity of over-beading, sequins, and too many appliques. Not to mention leg-o-mutton sleeves. So I took it to a Halloween party last night, and when I was feeling brave, put it on just for kicks.

The Reactions ranged the gamut from [livejournal.com profile] cgull_ bursting out laughing (he was on the other side of the room, so I couldn't slap him; maneuvering in a wedding dress with a train that is longer than I am just isn't easy!), to the "oooh, pretty" comments from a couple of "anti-traditional" folks who I *thought* didn't go for something so overdone.

Interesting side note: I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] dancingdeer a week or so ago, and she said that while dressing up as a bride for Halloween was interesting, she thought that it didn't "feel right" because she's never been married...

Side note #2: It was worn many years ago by someone named Morgan; the marriage didn't last.

Wow, it's very pretty though in a "fairy tale" sort of way. I also would not actually get married in something like that, but it's dreamy in a costume sort of way.

Not to mention it looks very nice on you.

Actually, it *is* pretty., At least from a picture, where I can't see the sequins. Maybe you improve it. :)

There *is* something appealing about that many yards of shiny satin and little pearls. While as a cultural icon it's a bit horriffic, as an object that particular dress does have a certain appeal to the senses. And it fits you rather well, leg-o-mutton sleeves notwithstanding.
Hm, i wonder if donating it to charity might be a proper disposal for it (after halloween...)

Oh, wow! Wish I'd been there! :-)
Shinyshinies! *giggle* That train looks impossibly long, though!

Hrm...yeah, I think I'd not wear what would ordinarily be called a wedding dress simply because I think I'd look awful in white, from previous experiences.

OTOH, if I ever got married, I wouldn't wear white anyway. *giggle* Purple or something sillier would be much in evidence, since, well, J'r and I have been living together for something like 7 years now. *snork*

I think the leg-o-muttons are a bit much, but other than that, not my thing, but OK. I'd go with the previous poster's suggestion to donate it. It would give some poor kid out there a piece of the fairy-tale wedding she's dreaming of, and just because they're not the dreams we dream doesn't make less valuable to the dreamer.
