phew! (Tom's move)
Jul. 20th, 2003 11:38 pmSo, Tom's stuff is all unloaded into his house... He is with us tonight, as he had neither time nor energy to dig out all the things he'd need to stay at his own place. Plus all his unwrinkled dress shirts are here anyway (his job starts Monday morning!).
The move was a bit frustrating, mostly because we needed twice as many people as we had. Tom has a *lot* of books, which would have been manageable with a "bucket brigade" arrangement, but we really needed 18 people, not 9. Finally we just started piling stuff in the front room, because the most important thing to accomplish was to get the stuff out of the truck and into the house. It was more personally frustrating for me because I am so out of shape, and my shoulders are iffy, so I couldn't handle anything heavy (like books). I made myself useful by hostessing** and unpacking some of Tom's bedroom and bathroom things.
In any case, many thanks to
dancingdeer, H*, A.,
koshmom,
marmota,
cgull_, and especially
deguspice, who has been gracious about having Tom as a houseguest, and OK with me spending hours on the phone with Tom before he moved here, and needed someone local to help him with his arrangements. And another thanks to
ceo for apologizing very sweetly for not being able to help (because he and
gosling are busy looking for their own new digs.) And another to
rmd for offering to help, even belatedly.
One thing that cracked
koshmom and I up was realizing that each of us had been involved with four of the five males present. I also enjoyed talking with her and A. and seeing a connection growing there.

I think the name of the place is "Nana's Pizza" (same letters, different arrangement).
