What? I shoveled this morning? Sure can't tell it now!

(We're getting LOTS of snow with a little sleet mixed in, and it's really windy. No tai chi tonight. Must get back to work because all the various deadlines are closing in on me quickly, and with the wind like this we may lose power.)

Best wishes to anyone whose idiot employer called them in for work today just because not much snow or sleet had fallen *yet* as of early this morning. Be safe, y'all!

For anyone who hasn't seen this advice already: [livejournal.com profile] donnad suggests that you *not* clean off your car if you don't have to, because the initial layer of snow will make the ice much easier to detach tomorrow morning. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] donnad for the helpful tip! ETA: This tip only applies if your precipitation started as snow.

At the moment I am actually happy that I'm so busy with work that I'm not attending many social events, given the number of my friends who have contracted norovirus. That would be a good way to land me in the hospital, and I *don't have time to be sick*.

That advice may hold outside of 128, but at least in Cambridge, there is no snow layer. There are several inches heavy, wet, icy slush, and a compressed layer of near-ice at the bottom. It's going to be top-to-bottom ugly when it all freezes tonight.

oh, yuck. I much prefer snow. We will have strata of snow and ice.

Public transit better than driving...

I went in today, because I was going to have to go out anyway. Trains were fine, but it was laborious shoveling the car out of the lot in Haverhill on the return. At 5PM we had about 20 CM of powdery stuff (like from a snow-making gun). Malden had about 10 CM at 3PM. Some rain there, none here yet.

yes, but I still have to get myself to public transit. I did some shoveling, of about... hm, in cm, probably 17 or 18 cm of this awful heavy mix of snow and sleet. Ben will do the rest, or at least enough so I can get my car out in the morning. The only rough part of the driving will be the 1.5 miles or so to I-93. I *could* work from home again, if I look outside in the morning and decide that I just can't cope.

We've had a tiny amount of rain, but it's mostly been snow and sleet. yum.
