I slept in, and [personal profile] deguspice and I went over to Andover's leaf dump and got some free compost.  We had someone come to give an estimate on painting the upstairs bathroom.  It is a small job, and we could do it ourselves, but the point is to see if we like her work enough to hire her for finish work on the kitchen, which is a much bigger job.  We found her because her daughters adopted rats from me.  If she does a good job with the bathroom, I'll add her to the Elbow-joints rec list.  (One caveat: she is a cross-wearing Christian... but completely not evangelical about it.  Nonetheless, some people might object...)

And then I dumped compost and other things into whiskey barrels and planted tomatoes.  This is the year of the cherry tomato; I have seven varieties and will attempt to keep track of which do well.  The varieties are:

Matt's Cherry
Husky
Sugary (a new variety just released last year)
Grape
Sweet Million (another variation on Sweet 100, which has done well for me)
Sun Gold (the only non-red one, since I prefer red tomatoes)
Small Fry

I did not choose any heirloom ones this year, because I did not have good luck with them last year.  The plants are from Lake Street Garden Center in Salem, NH.

No doubt I will have plenty to share; a healthy cherry tomato plant can bear hundreds of tomatoes...

I am trying not to nap today because I need to get back on a morning schedule for work.
