PSA about phones
Dec. 16th, 2005 03:56 pmI have said it before, but apparently ***someone*** didn't hear me, and it's not such a bad thing to let the rest of you know, so....
If you need to call me on the phone, DON'T treat my cellphone like my default phone. ALWAYS call my home phone first, unless you KNOW that I am not at home.
No exceptions. Yes, "some people" are giving up their landlines and going all-cell-all-the-time. Yes, "some people" think that's the modern and kewl thing to do. I am NOT one of them. (Nor is my husband.)
We live in a semi-rural area. The cell coverage where we live sucks. It's quite likely that if you call my cellphone when I am at home, the phone won't even ring, and if it does, I probably won't hear it, because the phone lives in its charger when I am at home.
I reserve the right to ignore calls that come in on my cellphone when I am at home, and to not feel guilty about the consequences.

Date: 2005-12-16 09:57 pm (UTC)I left you a message on your cellphone last week, but I called your home # first with no answer. I know you prefer landline, although on a saturday night (especially one with multiple known social events) it's not unreasonable to assume someone is out and about and therefore try cell phone numbers first. I left a message on your cell phone but not home phone as my question was time-limited and therefore wouldn't have mattered if you were out and didn't get it until you got home.

Hey, sometimes I feel that way too and I don't have a landline. I check the caller ID and see if I feel like answering. If not, then it's what voicemail is for; if it wasn't important enough to leave a message, it wasn't important enough to answer anyway. So, I'll check the message, and see if I feel like calling back.

Date: 2005-12-17 02:08 am (UTC)Some people are just so rude about their phones, or the expectations on how other people should deal with their phones. Phones drive me up the wall! :)
